Notes to Introduction
Acknowledging the rich vein of studies of Indian botanical drawings at the collections of Royal Botanic Gardens of Edinburgh (RBGE), Kew Gardens, Natural History Museum and even the British Library by Henry Noltie, Stuart Cary Welch and Phyllis Elder, and James White. The Indian collections, by contrast, are less studied, less preserved, and this site is just a precursor to a more in-depth project or projects in the future.

[4] The singular exception is the work of Henry Noltie, whose pioneering and diligent research in RGBE collections have paved the way for all future research of colonial botanical drawings. James J. White had begun a comprehensive survey of botanical art in Indian archives, but this was tragically cut short by his untimely passing.
